I am a 39-year old woman with a physical disability (I use a power wheelchair) living in Los Angeles (Mid City off Fairfax.). I am hiring multiple personal care assistants to support daytime (full-time), evening and weekend (part-time) shifts.

A bit about me - I work full time running my own consulting firm from home, and am currently working on another project that will launch soon. I have a very busy schedule that includes both local, in-person events and travel (not required for assistants to travel). I live with my partner who also helps lead the business and my service dog, Goji. In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants, shopping, finding new coffee shops, crafting and collecting stickers/markers. I also have a huge passion for fashion.

I work with multiple assistants/care providers who assist me with most activities of daily living. Previous experience supporting disabled people is not necessary for this role. The ideal candidate is someone who is loving and easygoing, yet highly organized and punctual to be able to help manage my very busy, exciting life! A warm, positive attitude with good communication skills is a must.

Primary responsibilities include personal caregiving (e.g using equipment to get me in/out of bed, bathing, wardrobe, restroom, makeup/hair) and home making (e.g. laundry, cooking, gardening, dog care). This means someone who is not squeamish about body functions/needs. The role can be a very physical position, so applicants must be comfortable moving -- squatting, bending, standing, and lifting. The ability to lift 40 lbs and a clean driving record is required. The position is hands-on and those who are deliberate about body mechanics (yoga, dance, sports, parenting) are often most suited for the work, though again by no means required.

Additional responsibilities outside of care assistance could include:

• Housekeeping tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming and changing bed linens, laundry and meal prep
• Assist in my safe transferring, repositioning and movement throughout the day
• Accompany me to appointments, work events if necessary
• Run personal and business errands such as subscription pick-ups, groceries, mail/ packages
• Assist in a daily pet routine such as walking, feeding, disposing of waste, etc.
• Appointment scheduling
• Picking up vehicle rentals/driving

Here are the shifts I am looking for (I am planning on hiring a few people to cover all these and am open to someone covering more than one, i.e. Evening and Weekends):

1. Day shift:

Daytime shift days/times: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm (40 hrs/wk) Daytime shift duties: Getting me out of bed, shower, and getting dressed. Food prep, physical support, etc. I also need assistance with other household duties, including washing dishes, taking out the trash, gardening, organizing, cleaning, laundry, etc. Daytime shift pay: Hourly, commensurate with experience (min. $24/hr.)

1. Evening shift:

Evening shift days/times: Flexible options, preferably Monday-Friday, 9pm-11pm; I need weekend coverage too if you are available. Evening shift duties: Helping me use the restroom, change, and get positioned comfortably in bed. Occasionally light household duties (putting in or switching laundry). Evening shift pay: The starting pay is $45/shift (approximately 2 hours).

1. Weekend shift:

Weekend shift days/times: Saturday and Sunday, approximately 8am - 11am Weekend shift duties: Getting me out of bed, shower, and getting dressed. Food prep, physical support, etc. I also need assistance with other household duties, including washing dishes, taking out the trash, gardening, organizing, cleaning, laundry, etc. Weekend shift pay: Hourly, commensurate with experience (min.$24/hr)

Requirements:

• No experience is necessary, but I do need someone that is VERY reliable, responsible, and dependable.
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be on time, clean, and a self-starter (if you notice something that needs to be done, you just do it!)
• I use a Hoyer lift, so you don't need to be able to lift me - however, the job is somewhat physical.
• Must be Queer friendly
• Language preference: English
